It’s that time of the year again! Finders Keepers, an annual event that occurs on the beach in Lincoln City, is back! We’ve got plenty of beachfront homes available for you to stay in while you scour the coastline looking for your own glass float to bring home!
Finders Keepers is an event where “Float Fairies” hide glass floats along the beach from October 22 to May 29. The glass floats can be found by anyone and are yours to keep! Over 3,000 glass floats are hidden during these seven months, while a total of 2,016 are numbered and can be registered through several means. The 2,016 registered glass floats represent the year. Next year there will be 2,017 of these special floats to find.
If you find a glass float, or five, with a number on the bottom, you can register it by calling 1-800-452-2151, texting FLOATS to 24857, or stopping by the Visitor Information Center, located at 540 NE Hwy 101 in Lincoln City. They can also be reached at 541-994-3302.
Wondering how you find these glass floats? The floats are only placed on the beach during the daytime. They are dropped throughout the day above the high tide line and below beach embankment. Glass floats are placed on the beach rain or shine. For your best chances of finding a float, make sure to begin your hunt at beach access locations. During special drops, you may also be lucky enough to find other glass art pieces, sand dollars, sea stars, shells, crabs, and coins.
Finders Keepers is an annual Lincoln City tradition that began in 1997. It has since grown tremendously. Real glass floats lost at sea from Japanese fishing boats are rare to find since changing over to plastic floats. Come down to the coast next weekend and search the coastline for your very own glass float treasure!
