Nestled at the base of the southern slope of Tillamook Head in scenic Ecola State Park, sits Indian Beach. This secluded sandy beach offers great surfing, hiking trails, tide pools to explore, and stunning views.
Head for the Trails
The Clatsop Loop Trail starts near the parking lot. This fairly easy to moderate, 2.8-mile out and back trail leads you through an old-growth Sitka spruce forest, and offers some scenic views along the outer edge. Leashed pups are allowed.
Want more of a challenge? The Crescent Beach Trail will take you on a moderately challenging 2.3-mile route through lush forest to a secluded beach where you can enjoy stunning views of Haystack Rock and other sea stacks to the south.
Hang Ten
Surfing the rugged Oregon Coast is a year-round sport, but locals say summer is the best time to learn how to surf here, because the PNW winds are blowing, and the waves are typically smaller.
Already a pro? Autumn offers prime conditions with less wind, warmer waters, and consistent surf. Wintertime offers great surf too, if you can endure the cold-water temperatures and heavy rainfall. Check out local daily surf forecast and conditions here.
Cleanline Surf Shop in Cannon Beach has everything you need to hit the waves. They also have local instructors who provide surfing lessons for all ages and skill levels. Don’t surf, but still want to enjoy a day at the beach? They also rent bodyboards, kayaks, paddle boards, skimboards, and more!
Tide Pools
Explore the rarely visited tidepools nestled in the boulder-strewn areas at the southern end of Indian Beach. Tide pools are best visited during low tide where you can expect to see anemones, barnacles, hermit crabs, sea stars, and more!
Please note: There is a $ 5 entrance fee.
