Sometimes your plans to spend time outside are rudely interrupted by a storm from Mother Nature, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still have a good time at your vacation home! Here are some fun things you and your family can do during a storm on the Oregon coast!
Why not snuggle up on the couch or in a big, overstuffed chair with a blanket and read one of the books you brought? There’s no better escape from the wind and rain than traveling to a new and exotic destination!
Warm up with your favorite hot drink as you watch the coastal waves hitting against the beach! Stay extra warm by snuggling with a blanket next to the roaring fire.
Hopefully the storm hasn’t knocked out the power! If it hasn’t, grab some blankets and pillows and relax with your loved ones and a bowl of popcorn as you enjoy your favorite movie together.
If a little (or a lot) of rain and wind don’t bother you, head down to the beach and watch the waves crash up close and personal. Remember to stay as far away from the water as possible. Always be on the lookout for sneaker waves. If the beach looks dangerous, find higher ground to watch from. Always stay safe while storm watching.
Storms are perfect reasons to stay inside and spend time together as a family. Why not play some cards or The Game of Life? It’s fun and it’ll pass the time, all while staying warm and dry!
Maybe you’ve been busy having fun all week and you’ve missed out on some of your beauty rest. Why not take a nap? Some people love listening to the rain and wind while drifting off to dreamland!
You’ve got some downtime and someone you’ve been meaning to call. Why not do that now? You can even catch them up on the details of how your vacation is going.
Instead of retreating to your own rooms, why not sit together in the living room and chat with one another? You never know when you’ll see each other again, especially if this is a family reunion.
Food is good for the soul. Why not make dinner as a family while the storm rages outside? Then you’ll have a warm kitchen and full bellies to help tide you over while you wait out the storm!
Why not build a fort for the kids to hide and play in? Remember how fun it was when you were a child? Now you can do it with your kids as well!
Using a flashlight, especially if the lights have gone out, take turns passing around the flashlight, holding it under your chin as you each add to the scary story. This game gets everyone involved, and you never know what kind of tale you’ll end up telling!
Did you bring your knitting or latch hook with you? How about some coloring pages and crayons? When the weather outside is frightful, stay inside and get your creative juices flowing!
Did you bring your pups to the Oregon coast with you? Make sure they aren’t getting too scared by keeping them comfortable and happy with lots of petting and snuggling! Pets don’t understand things the way we do, so it’s our job to make them feel safe!
Go to the movie theater!
Sick of being in the house, but it’s too gross to do anything outside? Why not head down to the local movie theater and catch a flick on the big screen! Celebrate with some candy and popcorn, too!
The more pieces, the better! Get everyone involved, and you’ll have that beauty finished in no time!
Storms on the Oregon coast are a common occurrence, but that doesn’t mean you need to let it get in the way of enjoying your vacation! Try a few of these ideas on your next Oregon coast vacation if necessary. See you on the coast! 🌊🐳☔
