Looking to chase some waterfalls? The rugged beauty of the Northern Oregon Coast and Coastal Range offers several scenic spots to explore.
Here are some great places near Seaside to marvel at the misty beauty of these natural falls:
Located right on the beach, the water cascades off of the sandstone bluffs around 15 feet and flows directly down the sands into the ocean. Hug Point beach access is a quick 12 miles south of Seaside, and makes a great day spot to visit with a beautiful stretch of sand ideal for beachcombing, picnicking, surf fishing, and tidepool exploring. Dogs are allowed with handlers carrying a leash at all times.
Note: Spring is the best time to view the Falls. Please be aware of the tide when exploring the beach, caves, and headlands.
Fishhawk Falls is located 35 miles east of Seaside, and makes a great pitstop if you’re coming to the North Coast from the Portland area via highway 26. The Falls drop 70 feet down a tiered basalt rock formation. The waters cascade and ricochet in multiple streams, finally settling at the bottom where they form Fishhawk Creek. Leashed pups are allowed.
As an added bonus, the falls are just about a mile from the Jewell Meadows Wildlife Refuge where large herds of elk typically roam.
First discovered in 1806 by a member of the Lewis & Clark expedition, theses Falls cascade down a large rock wall into a tranquil basin. The vertical drop is around 50 feet, and can gush at the same volume as Multnomah Falls. On a hot summer day, you can take a dip in the basin, which is a popular activity with locals. Located 16 miles NE of Seaside by way of Lewis & Clark Road, a visit to these Falls is a perfect day trip while vacationing in Seaside. Leashed pups are allowed.
